How to configure Dial- up myself? (Windows
95/98)
I guess, you have got the computer on which operating system is
installed (Windows'95 or Windows'98) and modem is plugged.
You also got your ID for being connected to Internet. You
really can configure Dial -up connection yourself and start
working. Follow me step-by-step or save this page on your
hard drive to use it later.
Step 1. Move the mouse arrow to the status bar, click Start
, choose Settings, then Control Panel. In the appeared window
highlight icon Add/Remove Programs . Double-click on the icon
will open it.

Step 2. Choose "Windows Setup" from bookmarks
in the appeared window. In the components list opened find
Communications and mark it.

Step 3. Now your connection is active. In the
right corner of this window click the button Details, choose
Dial- up and mark it too . Now click OK.

Step 4. On this step your computer will ask you for the
restart - confirm it (click Restart ) .
Step 5. Restart is completed. Move the mouse arrow to the
status bar again, click Start , choose Settings, and in the
window Control Panel choose icon Networks. Open it. In the
opened window choose bookmark Configuration.
a) Mark TCP/IP as active, if this protocol exists.
b) You must add TCP/IP protocol if it does not
exists in your list. Push button Add. In the Protocols window
again push Add, then choose protocol TCP/IP from menu Select
Network Protocol this way: in the left part of window mark
Microsoft and in the right part - TCP/IP .
see picture Now push OK to confirm operation. After
these procedures your computer may ask you for the restart
again. If it does - just confirm restart. If the computer
continues working - let's go on.
Step 6. Move mouse to the icon My computer, and open
it. In the opened window choose icon Dial- up Networking.
If you have never tried to make Dial- up connection companion-window
will appear to help you - Make New Connection. (if you have
already tried to make your connection and it just does not
work anymore - this window looks other way).

Step 7. In the appeared window Make New Connection
push Next. At the next level choose Telephone Number and type
your server telephone number (if you live in Georgia and your
server is located within, you should not enter Area Code)
. Now push Next again.
see picture In the next opened window you'll be
asked to enter connection name ("My Connection"
is default) and you can just confirm default name or type
any other. In the appeared window Make New Connection, push
Finish.
Step 8. From that moment is the window Dial -up Networking
the will be placed an icon My Connection. Choose this icon,
click mouse right button - this will pop-up the window of
settings for My Connection. Choose Properties and enter.
Step 9. In the opened window General leave blank the field
Area Code (if there is any code set by default just erase
it). Then choose Server Types and mark as active only TCP/IP
and Enable Software Compression.

Step 10. From that time you are ready to browse the Internet.
Every time when you want to be connected to the Internet,
call Dial -up Networking, double-click the icon My Connection
and in the pop-up window type your ID and password, then Connect
and go!
